Everglades Youth Conservation Camp

Junior Counselor Level I & Junior Counselor Level 2 Programs
The Everglades Youth Conservation Camp located in the J.W. Corbett Wildlife
Management Area, approximately 20 miles west of West Palm Beach, invites you to
participate in our Junior Counselor Leadership Program.
Since 1998 we have offered a leadership program for youth ages 15 to 17 years.
The goal of the program is to prepare youth for future staff positions at the
camp.
Junior counselors must be available to work for the entire two week JC
session.
Junior Counselor Level 1
The first year of the program focuses on the camp history and philosophy,
policies and procedures, the role of the Junior Counselor, the various staff
positions at camp, health and safety at camp, the camper’s world,
communication, how to be an effective teacher, leadership, program
organization, public relations and program evaluation. In addition,
participants will be assigned to do various work related activities including
assisting in the kitchen, dining hall, restrooms, and general grounds clean-up.
Junior Counselors are supervised by the Junior Counselor Supervisor dedicated
specifically to this group. Participants must select one of the two week
sessions. Junior Counselors will stay from Sunday through Friday for each week
of their experience. Junior Counselors are not permitted to stay at camp over
the weekend period. Duties for camp begin at 1:30pm on Sundays.
Junior Counselor Level 2
The second year of the program focuses on preparing the participants for the
skills they will need as staff members for the camp. Participants will be
assigned to work with the instructors and group leaders to gain first-hand
experience in dealing with camper issues. Junior Counselors are supervised by
the Junior Counselor Supervisor dedicated specifically to this group.
