The Pine Joggers are a group of joggers that have been meeting up in April through October since 2013. We meet on three Saturdays of the month to go for a jog together in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, which is located in the beautiful Pine Barrens in New Jersey.
Pine Joggers began in 2013 when a young woman named Cynthia Preston had just gotten out of rehab for alcoholism. In an attempt to find a new activity and hobby that would assist her in her sobriety, she started to jog in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest. She started to bring friends from rehab and meetings along with her to jog with her. They all found that the more involved they got with jogging, and the more consistent they were about jogging, the easier it was for them to stay sober.
While Pine Joggers began as a group participating in therapeutic recreation for the recovering addict and alcoholic–and they still have recovery-based jogging sessions once a month–it soon grew to become a group open to anyone who loves jogging.
