MISSION
Pine Jog is an environmental
education center with the mission of developing,
providing and modeling environmental education programs
which foster an awareness and appreciation of the
natural world, promote an understanding of ecological
concepts and instill a sense of stewardship toward the
earth and its inhabitants.
HISTORY
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred
G. Kay, Pine Jog occupies 150 acres of wilderness surrounded by
sub-urban development. Now known as the Pine Jog
Environmental Education Center, the property was first
called Pine Jog Plantation by the Kay’s who purchased it
in 1946 for the purpose of growing flowers, fruits and
vegetables. The Kay’s were involved in many
philanthropic community projects and in 1960 created
Pine Jog to educate young students about their natural
environment and to instill in them a feeling of
stewardship. The biotic communities at Pine Jog include
pine flatwoods, sawgrass marsh, pond, field and hammock.
